Panic Attacks are rapid onset, intense episodes of fear and concurrent physical sensations. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a science-based form of psychotherapy that is effective in most cases after only about 12 sessions. Unfortunately, it is hard to find an experienced CBT therapist.
Learn Panic CBT is a self-treatment program for panic disorder that is based on Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) principles that are used by experienced psychologists. It is authored by John R. Saksa, Psy.D. and it delivers the same treatments he uses in his practice, except in a compact self-study format. Additionally, there are 2 distinct components of this application.
The 1st component, “Self-Treatment”, is a sequenced self-study program that provides you with all of the basic CBT principles and strategies. The user is encouraged to pursue this component of the application over a period of weeks to steadily develop effective CBT skills to control panic disorder. Homework assignments are included.
The 2nd component, “Treat NOW” is designed to help a person immediately when having a panic attack. The Learn Panic CBT application for the iPhone and iPad is a reasonable self-help alternative for those people who cannot find an experienced CBT therapist, which would be the most preferred approach for the treatment of panic disorder. The application allows you to email the chapters in the “Self-Treatment” component and the forms used in the homework assignments to yourself for easier use on paper if you prefer.
