Chapter 408 - 401: You Actually Ganged Up to Ruin My Grand Plan

Her eyes were filled with disappointment and resentment. In the past, she had worried that her father might kick her and her mother out of the Grant Family because of Clara Grant and Skylar Hayes. Still, she had held onto a sliver of hope. After all, his affection for her over the years had been real. She couldn’t believe he would cast them aside without a second thought for the Grant Family’s benefit.

But now, she had heard his answer with her own ears. He had said "yes" with almost no hesitation. How could she not be disappointed?

Cedric Grant saw her and waved her over. "Come, come, Chloe. You’re just in time. I need to talk to you too. You need to go apologize to Clara for everything you’ve done. She..."

"Sorry, Dad, but I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you!" Chloe Grant walked up to him, cutting him off. "You won’t get the chance to kick Mom and me out of the Grant Family, because Clara Grant isn’t going to marry Seth Quinn. You won’t get to be Seth Quinn’s father-in-law, either. So you can stop dreaming about using Clara Grant to get in with the Quinn Family!"

"Chloe, what are you talking about?" Cedric Grant clearly didn’t understand what she meant, and he asked with a confused frown.

"I’m saying..."

Jean Jarvis frantically and nervously called out to her daughter, trying to stop her from saying any more, but it was too late.

"...the Quinn Family already knows about Clara Grant’s origins. They know she isn’t your biological daughter. They know she’s a bastard who doesn’t even know who her real father is! Now, the Quinn Family has cast her aside. She’ll never marry into the Quinn Family and become their young mistress. So Dad, you don’t have to waste any more time on that mother-daughter pair!"

"What did you say?! How could the Quinn Family possibly know about her parentage?" Cedric Grant thought for a moment, then suddenly remembered something. He strode to the study, found the key to the safe, and opened it.

He picked up the paternity test report on top and opened it. Just as he suspected, the thin feather he had placed inside as a marker was gone.

Clearly, someone had tampered with it!

"Chloe Grant!" he roared. Although frightened, Chloe Grant still went to the study. Jean Jarvis accompanied her, also treading carefully.

Cedric Grant held the paternity test report, which trembled in his hand, and walked up to Chloe Grant, his face contorted with uncontrollable rage.

"You went to the Quinn Family today? With this report?"

Faced with Cedric Grant’s fury, Chloe Grant was clearly flustered. But since she had already said it all, she gathered her courage and replied defiantly, "Yes! I didn’t want her to marry into the Quinn Family! I don’t want to see her happy! And I don’t want you to value her more than me!"

The moment she finished speaking, the sharp sound of a slap echoed through the air.

For half a second, the air stood still. Then, Jean Jarvis cried out and lunged forward, shielding her daughter behind her. "Cedric Grant, why did you hit our daughter? I’m the one who told her to do it! I stole the report and gave it to her! If you’re going to hit someone, hit me!"

Chloe Grant clutched her cheek, turning to look at Cedric Grant with tears welling in her eyes. "Dad, you hit me again! This is the second time you’ve hit me because of that bitch, Clara Grant!"

"Hitting you is letting you off easy," Cedric Grant seethed, his eyes turning red with rage. "Didn’t I warn you two, explicitly, not to bring this out? You took it and exposed Clara Grant’s parentage. Now what do I look like in everyone’s eyes?"

"I’ve become a joke to all of Novaria! A laughingstock! I can’t believe it. I warned you time and time again, but you two completely disregarded me. You actually conspired together to ruin my plans!"

"Did you ever think about me? Do you even see me as your husband and father anymore?"

"And what about you?" Chloe Grant shot back stubbornly as tears streamed down her face.
